Incoming students:Flight Bookings and Accomodations
Guess you are all pumped up about coming to Virginia Tech and the US. Wish you all the best in your visa interviews and hope to see you here. Here are some important pointers/reminders; please check out all the information posted on the VT - Indian Students Association site www.isa.org.vt.edu, specifically the links under ‘Future Students’.
1) Permanent accomodation - Put this high up on your priority list, as you might already know, the housing situation here is currently not very good, you should be making your housing decisions as soon as you can.
2) Flight bookings - The best time to land in Blacksburg would be between Aug 1 and Aug 10. Please note the information on http://www.isa.org.vt.edu/?page_id=98 To summarize the info there, try and land on a weekday and before the last Smartway bus of the day. This would save you a lot of pain/money. We would try to pick you up from the airport, but volunteers may not be available at all times in spite of our best efforts. We would soon upload a spreadsheet to co-ordinate pick-ups, you can then fill up your info and look it up for others heading to Blacksburg, travelling in groups definitely makes it easier.
3) Free temporary accomodation - We would also try to make arrangements for you to drop your bags and settle comfortably for a day or two before you move to your permanent addresses when you land here.
We would do our best to make your life comfortable until college starts
Please bear with possible delays in replies and continue to let us know if you have any general queries or if you need any specific assistance.
