Information about ISA
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why should I become an ISA member?
A: ISA is a non profit organization which serves as liason for the Indians to interact with each other and other socio-cultural communities. The funds generated by membership fee, sponsorships, and other fundariser events is utilized in organizing the annual activities. The GSA Budget Board only provides funds for some of the ISA events and so your membership fee is crucial to make every event a grand success.
ISA members also get chance to perform on stage at various ISA events including Fresher's welcome, Navaratri and Diwali. ISA members get the benefit of lower priced tickets at Navratri, and Diwali or other events where food is arranged by the ISA. ISA members get benefits at all movies, which can vary from "free" to very nominal.
This year we plan to release a 'Resume CD' containing a structured interface to all the ISA members resumes' on a single compact disc which will be distributed to companies and at the on-campus job fairs.
Don't miss out !

Q: How can I become an ISA member?
A: ISA sets up membership booths at every event where we accept the membership fee. Also, a secure online payment system has been set up, where you can pay the required fee by credit card and to become an ISA member. You can also post the membership fee to current treasurer by a Cheque payable to the "Indian Student Association".
Q: In what way can a new student help the ISA?
A: ISA organizes various activities during the year for which all are welcome to attend. We would really appreciate it if you could volunteer to help out with the logistics and production aspect of the event.
Another way in which new students can help out the ISA monetarily, is to cite the name of a committee member as a referral when opening a bank account. It is a win-win situation for both since you will get $25 and so will the ISA. Please contact the treasurer if you are interested in participating in the referral scheme.
Q: How much is the ISA membership fee?
A: The ISA membership fee is currently tiered according to the membership type which is described as follows.
Student: $15 /year or $12 /semester
Student + Spouse : $22 /year
Faculty/Staff + Spouse : $30 /year
Faculty/Staff + family : $50 /year
Q: I am applying for admission to VT for Fall 2008. I want more information about XYZ. Whom do I contact?
A: As part of our committee, we have a group of volunteers from different departments who will be glad to answer your queries. Please contact the person from your to-be department for more info. ISA forum is also a good resource to enquire about these issues.
Q: I took some photographs during an ISA event. I'm sure others would like to see them on the ISA website. Can I send them to you?
A: Yes, send an email to the webmaster, and we will add some of them to the albums. We cannot, however, guarantee that all the photographs will make their way to the site. We prefer ones that show larger groups of people or focus on the unique aspects of each event.
Q: Can I avail of transportation for an event organized off-campus?
A: ISA tries its best to conduct all events on campus so that they are reachable using Blacksburg Transit routes. However, for some events that are held off-campus, ISA will try to assist with car-pooling. The best way is to assemble at a common parking lot and drive on from there. For all such events, we will include details as part of the the event publicity.
